Field Application Scientist

Operations

Build powerful tools for agrigenomics labs by turning complex workflows into clean, scalable software.

Core features.

Our ideal candidate has these 3 features.

Solution engineer.

We are looking for someone who can walk into a laboratory, assess operations, and design effective solutions. Whether it’s integrating software, adapting protocols or optimizing data flows, you translate customer needs and the capabilities of the Breed Bio platform.

Client-facing.

We’re in search of someone that understands laboratories: PCR plate layouts, liquid handling protocols, QC data processing, assay design, and more. Equally important:, you read a room, speak with confidence, and communicate complexity in simple terms.

Startup-ready.

Ideally, you can see through complex and flexible requirements. You work autonomously and remain focused on reaching the end goal. You understand that this is a start-up environment with some ambiguity and are willing to execute the initial steps, to document and to improve iteratively.

Here’s what you’ll do.

We're hiring a Field Application Specialist to help customers get up and running with our platform and to expand its capabilities to meet evolving agrigenomics laboratory needs.

Responsibilities.

  • Map Breed Bio platform capabilities to each customer’s unique laboratory workflow and setup.
  • Partner with Commercial & Technology teams to scope additional requirements and to resolve onboarding challenges.
  • Own implementation success, lead in rollout, assist in remote and on-site training. Partner with Customer Success to deliver a long-term solution.
  • Travel to customer sites to understand laboratory setups, to support rollouts, and to evaluate implementations.
  • Work directly with customers and manufacturers to understand instrument configuration, calibrate workflows, and validate those in real-world conditions.
  • Expand the footprint of our solution at existing customers and spot opportunities for new solutions.
  • Represent the company at customer sites, conferences, and industry workshops.
  • Troubleshoot application-related issues, collaborating with Technology teams when needed.

Requirements.

  • Background in agrigenomics, breeding or life sciences, providing valuable domain knowledge for engaging with clients in these industries.
  • Familiarity with agrigenomics laboratories: a thorough understanding of laboratory workflows and instruments (e.g. sequencers, thermal cyclers, liquid handlers, fluorescence readers).
  • Willingness to travel frequently (up to 30%) for implementation, on-site support, training, and troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects across different customer sites, with solid organizational and time-management skills.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently.
  • Strong communication skills and able to explain complex lab procedures clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication skills - we serve an international market and most often use English internally as well.

Nice to have.

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in speaking French, German, or Spanish to facilitate communication with international clients.
  • A commercial background to support our sales organization.
  • Understanding of breeding & backcrossing workflows.

Working at Breed Bio

A picture of a macbook and a Breed Bio pen as well as a book.

Gear to get you started, and keep you going.

A MacBook that blows through work or a Windows PC that gets stuff done. Plus a swag pack that we think is cool.

An important challenge.

We are working with the largest companies in the world to solve for the bottom of Maslow's pyramid: food. Our mission is clear: help the breeding companies come up with an answer to the world's growing agricultural demands.

A normal relationship with work.

We believe people should have a normal relationship with work. It's not war here, it's just work. We're not a family, we're a team. It gets busier when we have deadlines, but those periods come and go.

Do what you love.

This thing we call work should be fun, and we'll do our best to make it just so. Whether it's building code, or shipping products to customers.

Learn & grow deeply.

From career skills to learning about agriculture: everyone on the team has access to an extensive learning budget. For specific skills, we enable you to learn on the job, too.

Great package.

Our goal is to hire the best of breed, and pay them accordingly. Next to competitive pay packages, we offer extensive fringe benefits.
